California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues President and CEO Diana Dykstra addresses attendees of REACH 2022 during the opening general session on Wednesday.

“Our credit unions continue to serve their members and communities in 2022 as new products and services are developed — and the Leagues continue to work tirelessly on your behalf to make it all happen,” said Diana Dykstra at the opening general session of REACH 2022 on Wednesday.

Dykstra applauded credit unions during the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ annual conference for surviving and innovating their way through the past two years as a rise in interest rates, consumer and business inflation, the COVID-19 pandemic, legislative challenges, regulatory issues, and business hurdles were overcome through the cooperative spirit.

She noted all the ways — through political advocacy, business operations, education and training, and innovative solutions — where the Leagues and credit unions in California and Nevada continue partnering to be the best they can be for the industry and for local members, consumers, and communities. Philanthropic efforts, local legislator meetings, and statewide consumer awareness initiatives were all part of this momentum in 2022 leading into REACH 2022, where attendees came to renew, reaffirm, and reimagine.

“We all do what we do because we love who we do it for,” Dykstra said. “Whether it’s you serving your members or whether it’s the League serving you, it’s an honor — and we look forward to 2023.”

Geri LaChance, vice chair of the California Credit Union League and CEO of SESLOC FCU, led the audience in a round of applause for League Chair Dave Roughton (CEO of SAFE CU), who could not attend REACH this year.

“He led us through this past year with vision, skill, and humor,” LaChance said. “And we needed Dave’s humor to get us through 2022.”

LaChance applauded credit unions across California and the California League for accomplishing great things during 2022 in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. She also thanked Dykstra for her visionary leadership.

Matt Kershaw, chair of the Nevada Credit Union League and CEO of Clark County CU, was also thanked for the cooperative role that Nevada credit unions play in the Leagues’ continued partnership over the years — and especially in 2022.

“Thank you to the Leagues for putting together events like this, and for making sure credit unions are successful at the state level,” Kershaw said. “Whether it’s in Nevada or California, our combined grassroots strength — along with the Leagues’ leadership — has helped us serve our members better and for credit unions to flourish.”
