The return of the Concord Turkey Trot saw an at-capacity crowd of more than 1,000 participants and volunteers at Newhall Park in Concord, CA on Thanksgiving, with Diablo Valley FCU honored to be the presenting sponsor of the event.

The event raised $10,000 for Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa. Loaves and Fishes serves over 1,600 hot, nutritious meals every day and also has a culinary training program. (View event photos here!)

"It was our pleasure to work with our sponsors and volunteers to bring back this joyous community event," said John Pamer, CEO of Diablo Valley FCU. "To see families and friends together having fun is what it’s all about.”

Karen Introcaso, board member for Loaves and Fishes, said the organization was thrilled with the large turnout, which gives the opportunity to showcase the day-to-day outreach activities of the organization. "The more our community knows about our mission and purpose, the more resources we’ll have to help those in need.”

Weather conditions were ideal as runners and walkers headed out on the 5-kilometer course. Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1525 presented the colors, and the Ladies First Choir from Concord High School sang the National Anthem. A Kids Run followed the 5K run, with a quick loop around the park.

Clayton resident Dylan White won the men’s race in a blazing-fast time of 15:45. Brandon Simpson of Concord was second-place, and Stephen Rothwell of Concord came in third-place.

Annie Morris of Clayton took first-place in the women’s race in a time of 21:42. Christy Rothwell of Concord was a close second-place, and Maren A-L of Concord came in third-place.

The Concord Turkey Trot is an annual event. Next year’s race is slated for Nov. 23, 2023, once again at Newhall Park in Concord, CA.

The mission of Loaves and Fishes is to provide community-based food programs and partner services that focus on basic needs. Since 1983, Loaves and Fishes has served over 5.4 million meals to thousands of people in need throughout Contra Costa County. It has recruited thousands of volunteers and built an organization that has grown to serving over 281,000 meals and distributing over 259 tons of groceries each fiscal year.
