In celebration of its 70th anniversary, Frontwave CU hosted a series of “Acts Of Kindness” activities from June – October, which was showcased throughout the Southern California communities it serves. Frontwave was able to give back in a big way by orchestrating a handful of thoughtful and “surprise” events during the entire campaign.

Local communities that have supported Frontwave’s mission throughout the years were celebrated, and the credit union’s positive force and service to communities were championed.

"We take the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people’ to heart,” said Bill Birnie, CEO of Frontwave CU. “There’s no better way to celebrate our 70th anniversary than by giving back to the communities who have helped make us great. Frontwave is very proud to be a positive force.”

Through this campaign, Birnie hopes the “donations and simple acts of kindness” will further encourage members and communities to “dream big — knowing that Frontwave has got their back.”

Participation from all 14 credit union branches helped produce the following events — and results:

  • ‘Taco Tuesday’ for Local Workers (September 2022) — The credit union was onsite at Tri-City Medical Center to host a free “Taco Tuesday” for hospital staff during its annual meet-and-greet event. It was a unique chance for both hospitalists and essential workers to connect and meet over a two-hour lunch. All in attendance were invited to have free tacos for lunch, and the credit union’s Goodie2Crew team talked with staff members and thanked frontline workers for their service.
  • Celebrating ‘Surfer Girl Pro’ (September 2022) — The credit union’s Goodie2Crew was onsite at the world’s largest all-women’s surfer and action sports/lifestyle event and music festival, taking place at Oceanside Pier Amphitheatre. Free goodies and special giveaways were all part of the fun.
  • Cash Giveaway (August 2022) — The credit union’s Goodie2Crew gave away $100 in cash increments to local San Diegans who were buying tires at the Discount Tire store in San Marcos ($2,000 total).
  • Tailgate Party for Baseball Fans (August 2022) — The credit union hosted a free tailgate party on Lake Elsinore's baseball team's home turf, Lake Elsinore Diamond, for over 1,000 Lake Elsinore Storm minor-league baseball fans in the parking lot. The Goodie2Crew was onsite, inviting fans to join tailgate activities, including face painting, games, Storm swag giveaways, food, balloon artists, music from radio station 99.1 KGGI, and more. Storm players and the team mascot were on the scene for pictures and autographs.
  • Marine Corps Annual Ball Donations (August 2022) — The Armed Services YMCA at Camp Pendleton (ASYMCA) gathered hundreds of donated gowns, shoes, and accessories, inviting spouses and partners of U.S. Marine servicemembers to come and “shop” for formal wear for their upcoming Marine Corps Balls in November. The credit union challenged its staff to collect 70 ball gowns for the ASYMCA, and staff donated 79 ball gowns. The credit union’s Goodie2Crew was onsite, welcoming shoppers and treating them to a boutique shopping experience with a bubbly bar and snacks. They surprised 20 lucky individuals with $100 that those shoppers were able to use toward hair and makeup on the day of the ball. Over 300 shoppers are expected to participate in this upcoming November event.
  • Waiving Pet Adoption Fees (July 2022) — The credit union paid for all pet adoption fees at three San Diego Humane Society locations. Anyone who adopted a new furry friend was treated to a free pet adoption, courtesy of the credit union. There were also "Family Firsts" pictures taken, celebrating the addition to the family that new owners were bringing home.
  • Throughout 2022 — The credit union supported the local military community, pumped gas for over 40 U.S. marines, sailors, and civilians, and donated $500 to a local youth soccer organization.
