CU Leaders Meet with State and Congressional Candidates

This week, the California Credit Union League and local credit union leaders held two important events for state and congressional candidates running for office.
Credit union leaders gathered at Valley Strong CU to show their support for Dr. Jasmeet Bains, who is running for the California's 35th Assembly District. AD-35 consists of portions of Kern County, including the cities of McFarland, Shafter, Arvin, Delano, Wasco, and portions of Bakersfield.
It is home to an astonishing 172,329 credit union members, which makes up 35 percent of the district’s population.
Dr. Bains grew up in the Central Valley, watching her father build a business, becoming an auto mechanic, and ultimately coming to own a handful of successful car dealerships. After college, she worked with her father before pursuing a career in medicine. She is well-versed in how credit unions are structured and how they serve the community.
During local credit union leaders' time with Dr. Bains, she discussed issues impacting the Central Valley, including auto lending, energy, and water.
"A big 'thank you' goes out to CEO Nick Ambrosini and Valley Strong Credit Union for hosting Dr. Bains' visit, as well as Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union for their support too," said Robert Wilson, senior vice president of state government affairs for the League.
Robert Garcia (Congressional Candidate for CD-42)
On the congressional side, credit union executives from the greater Long Beach and Los Angeles areas met with Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, who won the June primary election for Congressional District 42. The district is overwhelmingly democrat, which should lead to an easy election path for Garcia.
The group discussed the mayor's thoughts on credit unions, banking, the value of constituent services, and the relationship-based banking credit unions provide.
Hosted at the headquarters of LBS Financial CU, the meeting included Kinecta FCU, SchoolsFirst FCU, CU of Southern California, Post City CU, and Financial Partners CU.
