‘Ransomware Rollercoaster’: What’s Your Level of Confidence?

SAFE CU CEO Dave Roughton and CIO Michael McCarthy recently delivered a relevant presentation on a ransomware attack at their credit union, fostering discussion and questions among credit union CEOs on the invaluable lessons learned.
During the same presentation, ThinkStack Chief Growth Officer Tim Foley presented on “The Ransomware Rollercoaster,” showing how credit union leaders may feel their organization is safe but can still improve through scenario planning to defend against sophisticated, malicious attacks.
Insights were given into:
- What the current confidence level is at credit unions.
- “The Ransomware Rollercoaster”: confusion and fear, chaos, acceptance, regret, and PTSD.
- Emotional impact versus tactical impact.
- What does an ideal modern network security environment look like?
- Incident response, manage and monitoring, continuous optimization, and education/practice.
ThinkStack resources can be found here, as well as a Filene Research Institute report on credit unions’ cybersecurity readiness.
The discussion was hosted by the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues as just one of many value-added perks of networking through League membership.
